I’m racking my brains trying to remember how this got kicked off but I cannot remember, I do remember arranging to meet a guy called Laurence – a prop forward – at the Jumeirah towers in Dubai, only to find out it was a prop alright, but a lady one …. and a French lady one at that! Laurence was a business lady and knew exactly what she wanted, her brief remains to this day the most precise I have ever been given and the website reflected that.
Laurence already had a logo that had been professionally designed by a South African guy called John Cooper who is immensely talented and I have kept his contact in my pocket ever since. We just needed to take that, a handful of glamourous lady rugby players, the colours of the UAE flag … and make a website – easy.
In Dubai, the ladies play 7s only and each team takes it in turns to host a tournament, a system that worked really well. The Falcons won the Dubai 7s just as I turned up and were unlucky not to do so again the following year. Just as I left Dubai in 2009 the team disbanded and joined up with a bunch of infamous Kiwi guys to form the brand new club TOA Dubai (more on them here in the portfolio), but I loved the website so much, I have decided to keep it here in the portfolio as I think it represents well, just what can be achieved by RuckinRugby on the design front if indeed you are at all interested.
The front row lady, Laurence Arce Baithe – soon contacted me to design the TOA Dubai website and requested better again – very demanding – and we delivered, just look it up in the portfolio.
